Hypothyroid365 Fat-Loss Academy Reviews

These Sisters Did It.

So Can You.

Here are some stories of sisters who took action and dedicated themselves to losing the Hypo Pounds and reclaiming their health and confidence.

"What am I not proud of at this point? Lol I am proud of all my victories big and small! I’m proud for completing the HFLA and it is something I will continue with going forward. Mostly I am proud of all my Non-Scale Victories."

To name a few:

1. Balance -I didn't realize that I lost my balance, but yoga has definitely gotten easier as well
2. More confident in my daily movement
3. Energy - To keep going/pushing; Not being tired in the first place; Having a full day & still not tiring; almost no fatigue
4. Clothes don't fit the same!!
5. No bloating
6. No brain fog
7. Happier
8. Stable routines for my new lifestyle choices
9. Took control back on my life
10. Gained confidence
11. Healthier relationship with food

As well as my scale victory! (60lbs down!) I am back down to the weight I was when I moved to CXXXX from WXXXX.

[The HFLA] has been life changing to say the least. I didn't think it was going to be so easy to apply these lifestyle changes. I was able to learn what I truly needed to be eating, and I learned the foods I personally needed to stay away from. Once I saw the bigger picture in the plan, I became less stressed, and I feel like I can continue the systems I've set up for myself. I think I can also build on this foundation to continue making it easier to be healthy.

"Besides loosing 10 pounds, I learned how to work with my body and not against it. I also stopped binge eating! This was a problem for me for a long time and nothing else was working, I'd tried almost ever diet out there and this program was the best thing ever!! The HFLA and working with Needhee was the only thing that solved that for me."

I also learned that I can enjoy my life to the fullest again. That I can achieve the dreams I have and not worry so much about my thyroid because I know I'm taking care of it now.

This entire experience has been wonderful!! It's so nice to realize that so many other people struggle with hypothyroidism too, and many of us share a similar story. It's so nice to relate to other people who fully understand what you’re going through. This program has changed my life! I never thought that I could be someone who is capable of overcoming my  hypothyroidism symptoms and learning how to live a good life with it. Now I know that all you need is the right tools. I love the layers of accountability with the check-ins and Facebook Group. I also love the few apps Needhee recommended throughout the program. Lastly, the HFLA vault has so much information it's AMAZING!! These have all been super helpful things to use.

“In February, God sent an angel into my life. Literally, two weeks later things started to change. I was feeling better and in my heart I was feeling like God may let me run again. I wasn’t even thinking at the collegiate level. I was just praying that I could run for fun. In May I slowly started running a couple days a week for fun and felt strong, really strong. So I started light running in June and more intense training in August and just continued to listen to my body."

I am now running 50-55 miles every week and remaining healthy. Every day I am more grateful. I was given a mountain I didn’t think I would be able to climb.

I can officially say in January of 2021 my goal of getting to compete again is coming true! I’ll be running for Texas A&M! Thank you for coaching, supporting and encouraging me not to give up.

TATUM S.
"I’m proud of learning to work with my body, losing 5 pounds, having more regular bowel movements, feeling more energized and finally fitting back into my clothes!"

Needhee did an amazing job with providing a ton of valuable information in various formats. She was engaging and had every sister excited and motivated to learn. She provided many resources, like the weekly Zoom calls, office hours for questions, the Fitness app, different pdf guides, meal prep excel sheets, and podcast resources. All of which were extremely helpful. She made me feel like I was getting every penny worth of my investment to the academy.

EMILY M.

"I feel a lot more relaxed around food and take pride in the extra time I take to plan nourishing, but also delicious meals where I don't feel deprived. I no longer feel like i'm broken or defected or that I need to hide behind my Hashimoto's or use it as an excuse for not getting fit."

Needhee, I love how you try to simplify and take the stress out of eating. For someone who's been jerked around by the diet industry for decades, your approach is so refreshing and the anecdote I needed. Many of your statements resonated and stuck with me, especially when you said on one of the calls, that we can "stop searching" (for more info/ answers/ hacks/ programs etc.) I feel at peace now with what I've learned and now know it's just a matter of practicing healthy habits and trying to be more consistent.

DALIA
"I am proud of many things. First and foremost, I have started working with my body and not against it. I am getting to know it and listening to it to find out what feels good to me and what does not feel so good. On the other hand, this is the first time that I am very aware of the amount of food that I eat and the components that my plates of food have to include. Finally, thanks to the HFLA, I am trying new foods and I am delighted."

This entire experience was absolutely inspiring and very valuable to me. Thanks a million Needhee, because I have been able to change my life. Thanks to you I am on my way to well-being and most important of all: I do not feel alone on the way. I also want to thank you that I see many changes in my routine and I have changed my diet not through restrictive diets, but through very useful advice based on what is beneficial for this autoimmune disease. Huge thanks for opening my eyes and giving me the right tools.

RUTH C.

 I’m proud of:
  1. consistently increasing protein in my diet
  2. learning to eat things that I love alongside nutritious foods with every meal
  3. losing weight
  4. bringing thyroid levels down quickly with the right amount of nutrition and meds which allowed me and my husband to finally get pregnant while I was enrolled in the HFLA!!!

BRANDI L.
"I lost weight in the HFLA and just had an amazing experience with learning how and why my body works and having progress as proof that it does work when cared for properly."

[The HFLA] was great. I appreciated all the attention to detail and you can tell that you put so much heart and love into your work... It is obviously something you are very passionate about. I think that as hypothyroid sisters we meet so many people that pass us over that it you actually give us courage to change and try again.

EMILY C.

"The HFLA gave me lifelong ways to sustainably live a healthier life"

GILLIE H.
"I’ve beat the binge-and-restrict cycle and also realizing that there is so much psychology behind losing weight!."

The HFLA was great- I loved it! The info was easy to grasp and implement. I come from a lifetime of binge, restrict and emotional eating so it took me quite a while to overcome some mental resistance I had around changing my ways before I could start to implement the info. I'm also a slow processor so I felt I needed longer to assimilate everything and put it into action but overall a very doable approach to weightloss.  I feel like I have the tools now to lose weight now in a sustainable way which I've never experienced before.

NADINA M.

Life got a little hectic midway through the program but I was able to follow along for the most part while still being able to live my life and enjoy some not so healthy food choices! I also continued to lose weight. It [HFLA] taught me how to balance outings/events with friends and family with everyday normal life. This new mindset has helped me so much in my day to day. It’s become the new norm and has forced me to live a healthier lifestyle; in turn overall happier in general!

SIANNA F.
"I was able to lose 7 pounds in 6 weeks! I also learned that anything that I put on my body is important. I'm more mindful of the things I eat and I'm able to listen what my body tells me. I also found great support and ideas from fellow sisters who are also going through this journey. I think once I was able to accept that this is a lifetime journey, I was more open to integrate ideas and ways to manage my hypo weightloss and health."

ONE YEAR AFTER THE HFLA

I have had so many gains both physical and emotional. Ive developed more awareness about hypothyroidism, listening to my body (and not working against it), and put some boundaries within myself.

It’s so interesting how my food intake connects with my mood and therefore my physical and emotional well being.

Thanks you for being part of my journey! I’ll be forever grateful!

Sending lots of positive vibes your way!

LORENA A.

“The HFLA taught me a sustainable and healthy way of eating that will aid in weight loss and is manageable throughout my life."

STEPHANIE T.
"I have significantly increased my protein and veggie intake. Overall, I have improved my relationship with food and don't have a disordered eating style. This experience was just fantastic! I love that it is in a group setting because other sisters ask questions that I didn't even think of so I end up learning even more that way. I appreciate your quick responses and in-depth explanations."

10-MONTH UPDATE
Hi Needhee! After I posted my last Instagram picture wearing a crop top (which I’m still getting used to!!!) I got so many compliments about how I look.  I’m still not great with taking progress pics but in lieu of that, I decided to compare a picture of me on my birthday from last year vs this year and I cannot believe my transformation. I know I’ve shown you the picture on the left before but knowing this is exactly a one year difference is unreal.

I feel SO much better both physically and mentally and feel so much more confident. The me on the left would never even think of wearing the outfit on the right. The girl on the right spent every moment wondering what people thought of me and if I looked “fat” but now, I celebrated my birthday at brunch with my closest friends, enjoying my favorite foods and drinks, and didn’t think ONCE about if I looked fat. I can’t thank you enough for helping me get to this place where I am secure in who I am now.

I’m currently donating a bunch of clothes that no longer fit or clothes that were always too big that I wore to hide my body. And I’m buying trendy clothes in my new size that fit well and make me feel great! I know I message you updates frequently but I just cannot say enough good things about you and what you’ve done for me

ERICA D.

"I’m proud of sticking with it through the entire program! My bloating has gone way down, I’m so happy! I aM very proud of myself and many people have taken notice of my change in attitude and the way my clothes fit."

My experience was honestly intimidating at first, but after seeing all of the overwhelming support for each of us gift to each other in the group, it has really helped me stay consistent on my goals. Needhee has also open my eyes to the fact that it is very possible to lose the hypo pounds, and I don’t have to be restricting myself of things along the way.

MARYBETH C.
6 MONTH UPDATE

I am down to the goal weight I had during the program with fluctuations. Which I don’t freak out over anymore. It happens. Life happens. Aiming for consistency for now and eventually hope to drop a little more weight. I’ve talked about the program to other friends diagnosed with Hashimoto and encouraged them to sign up.

HOLLIS G.

"I'm most proud of feeling like I'm more in control of my body and relationship with food."

NOOR B.
"Your [Needhee’s] positive approach to managing this disease was the most important thing for me. Not being overly restrictive and enjoying life as we should and how to do that for ourselves. The fact that it is centered around being compassionate to ourselves but at the same time calling ourselves out when we get lazy or make excuses and constantly reminding ourselves to be realistic about weight loss is a balance that needs to be struck."

I liked that the guidance that you gave on food intake was on a spectrum that could be simplified or brought up a level to weighing foods depending on each individual.

ZAHEDAH R.

"I felt like the term “sister” was really true - the program felt like a sisterhood. A really safe space for honesty and growth."

BRITTANY A.
"I know I actually have control over my weight for once in my life - even though I didn't lose as much weight as I would have liked to (I had unrealistic expectations), I know what I need to do to maintain my weight and lose an average of .5lb/week moving forward."

The girls and Needhee were incredibly supportive. I loved the access to the Facebook group, recorded calls, and I loved being able to count on getting a response no matter how simple or detailed my questions were.

NIKITA K.

"I have learned so much in these last 6 weeks than I have in the last 5+ years dealing with my hypothyroid. I've learned that it's all about balance!! Balance with food, balance with working out or not and how to make life just a little bit easier! I feel confident with ordering out and eating from restaurants. Meal prepping has a whole new look in my refrigerator now. I truly believe that this is going to be something I stick to and adapt into my life!."

My experience was great! Needhee was absolutely amazing. I asked a lot of questions, sometimes even felt silly to ask some of them but she made me feel comfortable and answered every single one of my concerns with ease!

SUNAL P.
"I’m proud of being able to eat anything and still know how to balance it without feeling guilty!!"

PUTRI K.

"So proud that I did make progress in a relatively short time by staying the course and trusting the plan. I gained confidence knowing what I can eat and knowing what will turn the scale backwards as well."

This entire program has been so enlightening, I’ve learned so much valuable information. It’s been really great!!

DEANNA F.

"It feels like food has less control over me; I don't feel as overwhelmed with "how do I try to manage this" and the steps forward seem both clearer and simpler; I'm aware of what to prioritize going forward (which doesn't seem that big, but is actually major considering how much information is out on the internet)."

Shifting towards the mindset of "progress over perfection" is also a really huge one - even though it might not be as glamorous as tons of weight loss - is what will probably make this a game changer in the long run. I'm also keeping in mind how important consistency and staying in the game is. Realizing that this can be done with little changes makes all this seem doable, instead of a major lifestyle change.

TATIANA P.

"For the first time in a long time - the scale went below 150 pounds. I wear the same pair of black pants to work and when I first tried them on, they were so tight they actually left a mark on my stomach...now they are just a little tight on the hip area."

I am the lowest weight I have been in over a year. I also used to be a huge snacker and now I spend more time planning for success.

CLAIRE F.
"I learned how to balance my plate more and started making really smart food choices."

I also finally beat the feeling that I want to give up on eating better after indulging a bit the day before - I just make smarter choices the next day and the world doesn't fall apart! I also learned that exercises and calories shouldn't be treated the same way, it really helped me rethink how I move my body and keep it separate from the nutrition factor.

DOMINIKA I.

"I have lost 10+kgs!!"

I still eat after dinner from time to time but I understand that if i eat one piece of chocolate I'm not "off track" and my efforts don't disappear. In general I have a much better relationship with food and try to fit things that I like and crave into my day to not binge! I feel amazinggggggg running, doing yoga, and in general being more active.

DINA S.

"Throughout the time in this program, I have lost 6 pounds! But I have also seen tremendous change in the way my body looks when comparing progress photos. I also have gained so much knowledge about myself, nutrition and how to create habits that will last a lifetime. Tracking food portions and being prepared with healthy foods to fuel my body is what I have taken away the most. I now know how to take care of myself and have confidence in myself to make choices that will benefit me. Two words I have been constantly thinking in my head throughout this program are "patience" and "balance" and that is what I will continue to focus on."

I loved everything about this program. I received way more knowledge than I originally expected and I am so grateful I joined! My favorites about this program were the TON of information/notes on all topics thyroid and nutrition, the fitness app (I love that it would connect everything to one place like your weigh ins, Fitbit steps, myfitnesspal calories, progress photos, and keep track of your personal bests), and the accountability with weekly wins and SMART goals (these really kept me on track).

OLIVIA G.

MY WINS

1. I have started to cook all my meals, understanding the importance of knowing exactly what goes into my food.
2. The understanding that it’s all about balance, not restriction. That has been an eye opener.
3. Realizing that making my own meals doesn’t necessarily have to be time consuming. Replacing lunch with a vegetable-fruit-oat milk smoothie has been a game changer.
4. Drinking more water! The mason jars help so much!
5. Not overdoing the workouts. Pacing myself now to strength training thrice a week + walks the other 3 (as opposed to doing HIIT 4-5 times a week). I don’t feel exhausted/drained all the time anymore + seeing results.
6. Waking up feeling fresh! It feels really good to not be completely drained as soon as I open my eyes; instead feel energized.
7. I am 7 pounds down in 6 weeks!
8. I don’t have any crazy cravings, or feel like I am going to go off the rail (as yet), because I do eat things I enjoy (which previously were categorized as cheat meals) regularly, just in a more balanced way. I can see myself do this in the long run in a sustainable way, and that’s a big result!
9. I understand my body slightly better, and don’t feel low just because scale goes up at certain times of the month.

It has been a great experience! The fact that you individually responded to all our queries has been a big help! Additionally, having a group of sisters to talk to and share experiences with, has been a big support too! No advice of yours was unrealistic, or made me hate the process (I may or may not have once had a breakdown while doing keto over a pizza lol - I can now look back and laugh at it). The fact that everything you suggested is practical and sustainable + so eloquently explained, is very helpful!

The sense of sisterhood and belonging was definitely a big factor that kept us going!

CHARVI S.
"I am SO proud of the progress that I have made. I am down 8 lbs, have generally been feeing more energetic, and have put systems in place to ensure my success and consistency. I drink protein shakes daily, allow myself to have a treat everyday (sometimes, more than one, but this hasn't thrown me off track!), and I've found the foods that both satisfy me and are healthy. While I haven't exercised, I am proud of the changes that I am seeing in my body and know that when I do add exercise in, I will see even more progress."

My experience was very positive. One of the things I loved best was feeling part of a community of like-minded women, going through the same challenges.

DANA N.

"I have gained so much more awareness about hypothyroidism and how diet is such huge factor in stabilizing your weight and not through starvation but by actually eating! There is a new found understand and level of patience and confidence that I have because of my time with Needhee."

I would recommend the HFLA. Simply because Needhee is wonderful. She is understanding but tough and she gets it. She has been through it so knows all the struggles that we experience. Needhee is more than a coach - she's a friend.

ANITA M.
"My 'before' was me eating too many calories and snacking a lot at night and not really having awareness around why I was so hungry all of the time. I also was eating way too much fat and not enough protein. I was afraid to eat less because I didn't want to mess with my hormones, but I also knew I needed to eat less if I wanted to lose weight."

I joined the HFLA to lose weight that I've put on in the last 1.5 years. I also joined to help decrease my emotional eating and boredom eating patterns and to learn more about why I eat. I also joined to learn more about the hypothyroid condition so that I have tools for the future in case my condition worsens.

I learned how to balance my plate and why it is important, I learned the importance of protein and how many magical powers it has, I feel more in control of my choices and my snacking (most of the time), I am able to eat less calories/fats/carbs without feeling deprived, I feel stronger and have more endurance, I understand more of why I eat, I have learned how to normalize and name things in order to increase self-compassion and understanding for myself, I have developed better self control when I go out to eat and go to friends houses because I keep my goals in mind and have a better sense of self-awareness

I feel like I have a ton of resources to use as I navigate my nutrition and fitness for the rest of my life. I am thinking I will take more time with each lesson and dive deeper into each of the them (especially the ones that I haven't mastered as well yet). I understand balanced nutrition way better than I used to and that calories aren't just calories. It matters what I put on my plate. Everything I have learned has also been super beneficial for my acupuncture practice and I have been able to introduce some of these habits to my patients. The way that I grocery shop and eat out has changed and I feel less guilt when indulging in things that I want when I balance my macros earlier in the day.

My time in HFLA has helped me feel like I'm not alone and that I shouldn't give up hope because there are so many ways to always be improving my mindset and relationship with food and it is a lifelong journey that will ebb and flow. But I feel like I have way more tools in my toolbox that are about more than just food.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE HFLA?
I would recommend HFLA to other hypo sisters and I already have to a few of my patients.

RACHEL A.

"I joined the HFLA to learn more about Hypothyroidism and how to better manage myself and feel better. I was eating out a lot, knowing the food wasn’t good for me but not doing anything about it. I didn’t know not to take allergy meds with levothyroxine or to take it before any food or caffeine. My hair was still falling out and UGH to it all... I am now more aware of the impact food is having on me and my body."

  • I am WAY more cognizant of the food I eat.
  • I am way healthier regarding groceries; I rarely shop in the middle now.
  • I am definitely more cognizant of my choices (good/bad) and how it makes me feel.
  • My hair has DRASTICALLY decreased shedding! THIS IS MAJOR!
  • I can tell when I am bloated versus just fat from food because of how it is bothering me.
  • I lost 7 pounds total and on different days my clothes fit different but I still need to be more consistent in regards to food choices for overall improvement on the scale, measurements and clothes.

The HFLA actually helped me put thought into my food choices. I’ve increases self-awareness awareness and self discipline. Thinking about food BEFORE I eat it (ie. do I really want it, why am I eating, management of cravings, getting full on veggies, preparing for eating out or at friends houses.)

KELLY J.

"I joined the HFLA because I was frustrated. So much information (but also very confused) on what to do but nothing really working. I was tired of seeing my weight go up and never down. What did work was very extreme and not sustainable. I was ready to try something new."

I feel so much better today than I did the first day. I make better choices ALL the time. I'm less bloated. No matter what the scale says, I feel slimmer.  I'm stronger mentally and have more confidence to keep this going and know I will reach my goal. I move more, even if it's one 30 min walk a day. I drink more water. Less mindless snacking. I eat with a purpose now.

I feel more in control of my weight/health. I know the right things to do and the consequences of having one "bad" day or week but that I can jump right back on track as if nothing happened. I feel less guilty for treating myself because I see the bigger picture and I've learned HOW to treat myself. I now understand that consistent progress over time is more sustainable than a quick drop overnight. I was so used to being hyper focused on either fitness or food but now I see the benefits of doing both together.

What resonated with me in the HFLA was breaking it all down into digestible and actionable methods. It was very effective. Like you say, we research and know so much so it's not a matter of not knowing what to do. But this program has helped me put some action behind what I know in a phased, consistent approach. Also, taking this time to experiment what works for me has been a game changer.

Even though I haven't reached my goal yet, I have so much confidence that I will. I'm learning the pace of my progress really depends on me and not some imaginary thing I'm blaming : ) and I don't have to beat myself up about it. I can't wait to DM you when I reach my goal!

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE HFLA?
Yes, I've already recommend the HFLA to friends! If they are going to try anything it has to be this. We learn so much and the 12 weeks really helps make it turn into a habit. I was worried I might fall off or not continue but I really can't see myself going back to the way I was before.

RAHIEL D.

SOME OF MY WINS

  • 10 pounds less and counting
  • Increased protein intake and learned to balance my plate
  • Awareness of emotional eating and need to consume, making peace through awareness
  • Feeling like I can have hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's AND that my body and I can work together, we're on the same team, in other words I no longer feel like my body is against me

Back in January, I provided this intention: "I joined the Hypothyroid Fat-loss Academy to learn healthy ways to manage my hypothyroidism and its symptoms for my life. I want to be free of excuses, trust myself, and claim my space in this world." As for where I was when I joined, I was regularly gaining weight and not really eating differently than I had before being diagnosed. I did not plan. I felt that I did not have control of this part of my life. I didn't want to gain another 30 pounds in another year. The weight gain was making me feel slow and causing my body additional stress. This was all making me unhappy.

I do feel better than I did on my first day.  I have skills to manage this part of my life. I have the ability to keep building skills. Managing this part of my life certainly converts into confidence in other parts of my life. The inches and weight are lower numbers, some clothes fit differently, which are great indicators of progress too.

I have learned and integrated many important habits and lessons that are true to who I am and what I value. I have greater awareness of my relationship with my body and how I care for it. The reframing of the scale as a data collection tool resulted in an important shift in my thinking. The role of planning and tracking nutrition have been useful tools for me. Learning the pace of change has also been meaningful.  My daily routines and body has changed.

The HFLA has helped me manage my nutrition in important ways. For movement, it's helped me understand movement in new ways and also recognize when I need to dial down. I've learned to accept that my HEC can get out of check with relatively low amounts of exertion so that I can approach even regular walks with awareness. It has also helped me understand the ways that stress challenges my body and ability to lose weight. I will keep practicing and I expect I will keep growing throughout the process now that I'm able to make productive assessments of where I am and where I want to be. Overall, I liked the pace of the program. I appreciated the habit stacking and assignments. As my workload got my complicated at work, it was more difficult for me to fully engage with some of the habits and subject matter. I've saved the material and have a plan to review and revisit as I plan for post-program. I liked the client-centered approach. I had to learn to rely on myself and data sources for how I was doing. That will help me in important ways post-program.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE HFLA?
Yes. It is a well-organized, client-focused program that can help you assess your behaviors around nutrition, fitness, and movement and make solid progress at developing a plan, building skills, and forming important habits that will work for your life. Part of the magic of the program is that you can adapt and rethink your plan as your life ebbs and flows. The only rule is to stay in the program. It is hard work, it is work that requires honesty and authenticity, but if you are willing to give yourself to it, you will rethink the ways you eat, move, and live in important ways.

I would like to add my gratitude. Your program helped me in surprising ways. I joined for a plan to help me lose weight. Because of your design of this program, its curriculum, and its client-focused purpose, I had to make plans and decisions for myself. Not for a grade. Not for applause. Not for a dramatic and rapid change in my weight. You encouraged, but if I wanted to accomplish my goals in this program I had to create my owner's manual and lead my progress. Thank you, Needhee for setting and holding the boundaries while encouraging and coaching so well. I appreciate you.

JILL D.
"Before HFLA I thought taking my synthroid pill was enough. I knew certain foods upset my stomach and high carb meals made me tried but I didn’t know about balancing my meals. Now, I feel more well rounded about hypothyroidism. I listen to my body more. I consciously make better choices when eating out but don’t feel deprived."

Before, I’ve always lost interest in something if they results aren’t fast. I know now that progress will be slow, but it can be slow and steady. A nonscale victory is just as appealing to me now as a scale victory. I also give myself more grace. I don’t let one unhealthy meal or one unhealthy day make me feel guilty.

I appreciate you and your hard work and all of your posts, Needhee!

MOLLY Y.

"I joined HFLA because I was tired of looking for the a diet program that worked.  I wanted my time back, instead of reading the latest and greatest diet books I wanted my time back while also succeeding.  I was also in a place where I was looking for quick results and when I didn't get them I would quit.  I didn't want to quit on myself anymore."

There is a lot that has changed in the last 12 weeks, I definitely look at myself differently,  more positively,  which I feel is fantastic.   My whole mindset has changed and know where I need to go from here, and I appreciate that from the bottom of my heart!!!!

I definitely have a clearer mind when it comes to weight loss.  I now think of what vegetables to have at each meal rather than going days without eating a single one, and I think I make better food choices overall.   And I now look at myself in a different light, not everything is about weight loss, being a healthier person to me is just as important if not more than weight loss.

My time in HFLA has helped me change my mindset of how I look at myself and my overall health. This program breaks things down.  Not everything in the program will resonate with everyone but when something does you know it and it opens your mind to a new outlook. Also you manage expectations very clearly and I find the honesty very refreshing. I  also appreciated the fact that you wanted us to work with our current lives because it has to work for your lifetime, eating out,  chocolate...all the things!!!

Also: Being hypothyroid is bad enough and having a coach who also has it is very refreshing.

BRANDY S.

"I joined the HFLA because I was so depressed. The only thing I would think of was my weight, my body, my clothes not fitting, food and exercise. Life went right past me. I truly do not even remember much of that year because my focus was on the things I mentioned. I was trying my best to work out and eat very low calorie foods. I was so confused and lost as the internet said to cut out so many things and I was already being restrictive. My body was so tired because i thought the more I work out, the better. My mind was so overwhelmed and tired. Despite all that I did not lose weight nor did my clothes fit better etc.

I don't even remember how I came across  H365  on Instagram, but I started following your account and I started to get a brighter picture of thyroid problems and how to deal with it.  I still was a bit lost because I was trying to figure my way around the information I was getting. The first thing I did was follow the post you uploaded about balancing your plate between proteins and vegetables so I went out, prepped my meals and did that. I then kept watching your stories and saw that despite your diagnosis you  weren't restricting, you were happy and you were living. Then I saw some of the before/after/feedback from your clients and I was so keen on being coached by you. I wanted my life back, I did not want to stay feeling this depressed, down and anxious anymore. I hated seeing people and I was no longer enjoying anything so when I that  you had put up the link for us to put our names down for the academy, I jumped on the opportunity and I am so glad I did.

So much has changed for me since joining the academy. These changes are physical, emotional and mental. I feel so much better since joining the academy. I am no longer depressed and taken by weight, food and exercise. My nutrition and movement has become something that I enjoy once again, and something that is part of my daily routine. I move because I enjoy it, it gives me energy and makes me feel stronger. I eat balanced meals because I want to, I feel better, have more energy and genuinely enjoy it. I look at new ways I can balance what I eat. AND I NO LONGER THINK ABOUT FOOD & EXERCISE ALL DAY!!!! that is a major thing for me. I walk so much more confidently, I get dressed and feel good about myself, I walk into work, I walk into the shops, I want into meetings and I feel much more confident. I even speak, give ideas and present at these meetings. I no longer try to hide away. I would say I definitely make better choices. I think before I eat and the fact that I understand food much more, helps so much. I now look at ways of incorporating vegetables onto my plate. I am no longer scared of bread, carbs or less nutritious food. I think about why I am craving certain things. Is it because I didn't eat enough today? Is it because I am stressed/emotional? is it for psychological comfort?. I also think about how  I will feel if I decide to eat certain foods. My clothes are fitting me better which makes me feel so good. I definitely have more perseverance and strength in my workouts. I can last longer and feel less tired during some of the exercises I do.

My definition of progress has changed significantly. Rather than just looking at the number on the scale to determine my progress, I look at so many different things including; how I feel mentally, emotionally and physically, I look at how my clothes fit / how confident I feel, i look at how much I understand food and nutrition and I look at how much I am learning about my body with what works for it and what doesn't. My routines have changed. I wake up earlier, take my medication and head out to the gym. My eating times have changed depending on when I actually feel hungry. My body has changed. I have seen some changes in my shape and I can see that I  have lost weight overall. Although I haven't lost a large amount of weight, I am so proud of the different changes I see physically, emotionally and mentally and despite the 12 weeks coming to and end, I will continue along with what I have learnt and continue changing my life.

HOW IS THE HFLA DIFFERENT?
One of the major differences about this process that really resonates  with me is that it isnt  just focused on losing weight nor is it only focused on losing weight in a short period of time. It focuses on changing our lifestyle and our mindset in a way which will benefit us for years to come. Its given us the tools we need  to continue progressing. It did not throw a bunch of information at us and expected us to make sense of it. Even though the 12 weeks is up, I know that I have the tools and knowledge I need to continue progressing.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE HFLA?
YES YES YES YES YES YESSSSSS.  This has been one of my favorite investments to date. I am no longer confused and overwhelmed with the information on the internet, I now understand food, nutrition, metabolism and thyroid a whole lot better. I am surrounded by people in the same boat as me and no longer feel so alone in this. I no longer feel like I am yo-yoing. There are so many reasons, I do not even know where to start. I do not need to restrict my food or over exercise. I can eat what I want in a balanced and smart way. I don't even know how to explain how much the academy has changed my life. I am actually enjoying life, making memories and taking in moments which is something that means so much to me.

Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into helping me. I do not even know where to begin. My life has completely changed for the better.  THANK YOU!!!!!!!! You have helped me so much. I feel like I have gotten my life back.

ROUWAYDA S.

"I joined the HFLA to learn practical tools on how to create balance in healthy eating within our daily lives while still not feeling like you need to eliminate food items or feel like you cannot participate in life fully.  I also wanted to understand how to make this goal a consistent reality."

List Of Items That Have Improved:
1. More energy
2. Make better, balanced choices making sure to incorporate protein and vegetables at every meal
3. Have felt better in my clothes and go through less periods of fluctuation
4. Have a 100% better mindset around food. Not feeling guilty when I have made the choice to incorporate satisfaction in my meal or day
5. Have improved on planning meals and snacks so items are ready and accessible for better choices and less thinking

Reflection:
1. Have been able to get back on track right after a bad meal or snack and not let my whole day be a write off
2. Have learned how our choices are often a reflection of our environment and our awareness about our feelings and thoughts in different situations
3. My definition of progress has definitely changed. I still would like to continue the journey to loose a few more pounds, but that will not be what I use as a marker for my success. The marker I will use will be based more on self-awareness and consistency long term.
4. Understanding that there is no black and white and there is room for using the dial method depending on what is going on, as long as you don't dial down to 0 you are keeping some consciousness around consistency

How was the HFLA different?
What really resonated with me was how much of your coaching can be transferred to different aspects of life. Understanding that our choices and mindset not only towards nutrition, but also towards family, work and relationships are all intermingled. This self-awareness is key to success and growth in many facets of life, including this journey on incorporating balanced healthy nutritional habits in our lives.

Would you recommend the HFLA?
Yes absolutely. This programme provides more than just growth in understanding how to manage hypothyroidism, it includes so much more with how to live through life in a happy, healthy way.

Thank you, Needhee, for creating such an enriched coaching program. I really had no idea that the 12 weeks would involve such depth. I am currently working with a coach on personal growth, so it has been really great for me to understand and see the overlaps on self-awareness. Looking forward to being able to stay connected with you for continued growth.

BINA S.
"Before the HFLA, I did not know how to eat for my body. I was slowly gaining weight, no matter what I tried. I was super stressed and exhausted. Today, I feel a lot better. I have destressed, lost about 5 lbs, and am back to moving and working out."

Overall, I feel much calmer than I did before joining HFLA. I know how to keep myself accountable and on track with my eating/weight and how to manage myself. I feel confident in going to a restaurant and how to conquer the day without worrying about slowly gaining weight.

How was the HFLA different?
I really appreciate how honest and candid you are. You run the program in a very non-judgmental way, which is so powerful when it comes to health/bodies/weight loss. I also really liked the group co-hort setting at first I wasn't sure about it but you did a great job managing everyones personal needs and addressing the group.

It was also helpful that you ran the program in a way that whatever works for everyone that's what they can do (macros, portions, etc). It was really nice to see.

BEFORE
I joined the HFLA to learn how to feed my body, regain my confidence again, and get out of this plateau I had been in. I was horribly bloated, my acid reflux was so bad I was choking at night and couldn’t eat anything without feeling like I was suffocating. I was fatigued all day and tired, so I couldn’t even listen to my lectures for school and i was  incredibly depressed and down about myself.

AFTER
1. I have improved my eating habits, implementing vegetables daily and enjoying them.
2. I don’t feel scared anymore to eat pasta or my deserts because I know how to portion my foods in a way that I can still enjoy them and be ok with my weight loss plan.
3. I don’t have acid reflux 99% of the time and have identified foods that provoke it.
4. I have more energy now than I can ever remember before joining the academy and I can actually pay attention in class without feeling like. 10 pound weight is hanging over my eyes.
5. I am 3 pounds away from my goal weight weighing in steadily now at 133 lb and honestly feel happy about my body I have seen how it’s changed since implementing the habits from HFLA. My clothes fit looser, my stomach isn’t bloated anymore, my facial swelling has gone down and I feel beautiful now and feel compassionate for the person I was before.
6.I feel empowered because now I know what to do when it comes to my meals and how to manage my thyroid health better using what I eat and knowing this is a lifelong thing that I’m in control of.
7. I am no longer debilitating depressed which partly was from letting go of things from my personal life that we’re bringing me down  and implementing the lessons I’ve learned from the academy to not only my health journey but my personal life too.
8. I look in the mirror now and see somebody strong, beautiful and excited for the future.

My definition of progress has changed definitely, I no longer look at the scale and become disappointed at the number but I base my progress on my clothes, the way my body feels and looks and if I’m not happy I don’t dwell on it, I just think about what I’m going to  do change it.

My routines have changed, I’m more structured in my sleeping and eating habits to optimize my health and energy. I’ve become more relaxed about eating things that I love that I thought would keep making me fat. I know how to schedule my foods at certain times to optimize my energy so that I don’t feel sleepy during the day as well. I’ve also been able to narrow down in foods that make me feel horrible and give me acid reflux.  I sleep more soundly now and much longer and don’t feel tired anymore during the day for most of the week.

Although I exercised before, my exercise now has a more meaningful purpose and not just to make me look good but to feel good. And I’ve cut out exercises that drain my energy.

Would you recommend the HFLA?
Yes I would because I think there’s a reason why normal diets and weight loss programs don’t work and it’s because they don’t actually offer anything that people don’t know already and I feel like the academy offered more information and actual guidance in how to change eating habits and weight loss in a way that was customizable to everybody’s preference and didn’t make it restrictive or miserable but actually empowering and helpful.

I would just like to say thank you so much Needhee for everything and I’m so happy I came across your IG almost a year and half ago. You have helped change my life in ways I wish there were words to better describe it. I hope you have continued success in the academy so you can continue helping hypothyroid sisters like me who are looking to change their lives for the better. I will be looking forward to an alumni page and will join as soon as it’s launched and can’t wait. Please take care, and I hope God keeps blessing you with many more years of good health and happiness.

VANESSA C.
Before
I wanted to feel more like myself, lose the stubborn weight, and develop a healthier relationship with food

After
I feel much more energetic, I feel leaner, my skin is glowing, I know how to balance a plate and see things more long-term vs looking for just a quick fix, I've lost 8.5 pounds and over 11 inches off of my body and I feel more motivated and dedicated to my health. I also think I have more realistic expectations which is going to help me stick to this new lifstyle!

My daily routines involve more movement and my mental health has definitely improved. I'm trying not to label things as "bad" or "good" and I am happy knowing that I can have the things I love still in moderation - this is totally new to me and feels like a weight off my shoulders!

I loved the education component of the HFLA because I feel like understanding how my body works helps me to have more compassion for it. I also loved the facebook group - though I am a little shy and didn't participate that much, it was great to see other women's challenges that I was also going through as well as celebrate their wins along side them!

Would you recommend the HFLA?
Yes, I absolutely would! It has really helped me jumpstart my weight loss journey by giving me the foundation I need to understand my own body and what works for me/what doesn't as well as how the metabolism works in general and how that differs from us who have hypothyroidism

EMMA M.

Before
I feel way better than how I felt at the end of 2020. When I had applied, I felt desperate to find change. I work graveyard shift and would spend my time after/before work in bed with major migraines and nausea and had very poor sleep. I had horrible, really horrible, GERD (due to acid ingestion--work accident) that never healed. I was also VERY afraid of food. I thought it was my worst enemy. I had zero confidence, felt ugly in anything I wore, and never wanted to be out in public in my city, fearing that I would bump into someone I knew. I gained over 40 pounds in the last 3 years, very tense muscles, and packed over 3 bins of clothes in the last year because I could not fit into them. I found myself buying clothes every month to fit into ANYTHING. I wasn't myself.

AFTER
Today, I have more confidence--in myself and in this journey. I am able to enjoy my days with a better mood and only experience discomfort/headaches/irritability once in a blue moon. Lately, I can sleep at least 6 hours straight. My GERD is does not exist anymore. I am regaining my independence and I am able to be out for a couple hours doing errands without any type of fatigue. I am able to walk for 30 minutes on my own. Before I had someone to accompany me, fearing I may faint. The mobility in my upper back/shoulder/neck area has improved and my stomach does not bloat as much, allowing me to tie my own shoes. My wardrobe is beginning to sit better on my body and I am slowly adding my old clothes into my closet. I've lost 10 inches from my total body circumference and 10 lbs so far

ZINNIA C.

My wins since finishing the HFLA:
I have a busy lifestyle (I'm in the military, marathon runner and grad school student) and I am now able to keep my energy level up to meet those demands. My thyroid levels are right where I want them to be thanks to me understanding my body and listening to it. I have never had a better relationship with food and am able to consume as much protein on a vegetarian diet. Enrolling in the HFLA and H365 was the best investment I could have ever made toward my health and well being. I am very grateful to have stumbled upon Needhee's program when I did on my thyroid journey!

BEFORE
I kept gaining weight and not able to figure out how to lose it. My energy level was so, low that I would come home from work and not want to get off the couch. My belly was so bloated that t affected my movement and made me want to hide behind my clothes. I didn't feel like myself and I was just frustrated with how hypothyroidism had taken over my life.

AFTER
I feel like  understand my body more. I am more self-aware and understand how something is going to affect my body. I know what foods irate me like (stevia makes my throat have that scratchy feeling) and I know what food I should be eating to help with digestion and give me energy to help my body keep up with my busy schedule and demands.

I feel more empowered by the knowledge I have gained. Everything I have learned about my own body and how it works. I feel like every friend I saw during these 12 weeks I had to tell them about my "diet" because I was so impressed by the results and how it fixed so many of my issues. I don't feel like hypothyroidism is going to control the rest of my life because I have control of it.

How was the HFLA different?
It has given me hope. Us sisters who have Hypothyroidism are the only ones that know how it feels. I can describe my symptoms to my friends, family or even my doctor and they will never know how I feel and the struggles we deal with day to day. Seeing everyone's results and my own really did give me hope that I can get back to feeling 'normal' and being able to do everything I want to do.

Would you recommend the HFLA?
A million times YES! Your health is worth the investment. You don't have to keep struggling and living with frustration. As long as you are willing to take small steps toward a better you, then you will see results. It's worth learning how LIVE life with Hypothyroidism and not continue in a downward spiral.  I am so grateful that I found this program and I would rejoin in a heartbeat.

I feel like this experience has really made me think about what I really want to do when I transition out of the Navy and how I can use my MBA. I have a real interest in women's health and helping those that struggle with Thyroid issues. I think there is a huge gap in medical care and hypothyroidism and it really requires the patient to be proactive to get the care they need. I would love to figure out a way to get everyone on the same page and improve this process so many women do not have to jump through the same hoops that we have had to.

MEGHAN D.

JILL D.
Why did you join the HFLA?

Ugh.  I was stuck in a morass of confusion!  My old way of dieting (cutting way back on eating) wasn’t working anymore, and I think AIP really messed with my head.  I think AIP was a healthy diet, but there is zero allowance for deviating from the plan.  I felt sad and achy and dull.

AFTER
  • I feel way better now!
  • I feel hopeful that I can work with my body to be healthy.
  • I feel capable of continuing my weight loss process.
  • I consistently choose satiating meals and snacks, so I am not eating chips throughout the day anymore—which I didn’t really know I was doing.
  • I don’t feel like I am having big mood swings, which had caused me to unconsciously snack as a “treatment.”
  • I can fit into my old clothes.
  • I returned to a jogging regimen, which I love.

I would say one of the biggest things that has changed is that I don’t feel like a failure throughout the day.  I think this was really bogging me down in general.  Since humans have to eat, I had multiple daily opportunities to feel like I was messing up.  Once the cloud lifted a bit, I realized that I was already doing lots of good things, like cooking healthy homemade meals.  I feel really happy that I don’t have to constantly mention my eating limitations to everyone, which worried me since I felt it was a poor model for my daughter.  Very oddly, the removal of all the food limitations made me relax in a profound way, and I have no problem at all making the choice to avoid gluten or whatever.  I have a relative who is doing WW, and I feel sorry for him.  He is SO STRESSED.  With Easter coming up, he has been agitated and crabby with how he feels he won’t be able to handle it.  I am looking forward to Easter!  I planned ahead with what we are eating, and I know I will have chocolate!

I am still really impressed with the seamless tapestries of skills you introduced.  You presented things in such a palatable way.  I still don’t fully understand what I am doing, but little things pop into my head throughout the day to help me make choices.  One example is the awareness that I hate feeling stuffed.  That is a powerful thing to know, and I use this all the time now as a skill.  The lack of effort is amazing.  It feels like an organic process.

Would you recommend the HFLA?
Yes!!  The whole program is so refreshing.  Hashimoto’s seems to annoy doctors, and all they have in their arsenal is medication and elimination diets and blame.  I have XXX, which is in remission, and I had a similar feeling then.  It is so very hard to treat, so I had YEARS of dragging myself from doctor to doctor.  I finally found a miracle doctor who basically fixed me.  HFLA has been similar—a light at the end of the tunnel, a way to improve.

Well, it has to be said that the heart of the HFLA is you!  Your radiant presence combined with your organizational skills, intelligence, and  kindness made it an outstanding educational experience.  It seems like your program has been a huge success, and your clients can feel how much you care.  We can see the effort you put into making us all feel important and seen and heard.  At one point in my career, I organized conferences, and I fully appreciate the innumerable levels of work that went into presenting the academy.  You are making lives better!

CHRISTINA S.

Before the HFLA:
I was in a place that I’ve never been in before.  My weight has never been over 108 and then when my thyroid level took a turn for the worst, the weight kept creeping up.  I have almost tried so many different diets and ways to reduce the weight but nothing would work.

Today
I noticed a difference in the way I look at food.  Not being super restricted but enjoying a small bit of every food but in my “hand portion” size.  I have learned to read labels in a different way that I could never understand before starting your program, feel more confident in my decisions, feel happier bc this is a start of an amazing journey even though class has ended.

My daily routine has definitely changed in a sense that I know drink a lot more water then I used to and do a “power hour”.  Before i would over eat something that I really liked but now I eat it in my portion size.  Losing 7 lbs is huge after I started the Hypothyroid365, my weight has not moved down since I was diagnosed and just adjusting simple things has made a huge difference and it doesnt feel like I am taking away from things that I love.

It’s actually helped me grow as a person and how choosing a different path for myself can really help not only physically appearance but mental health as well.

Would you recommend?
Hell yes I would recommend this to everyone not only for those that have hypothyroid but to everyone who wants to learn about food, how it affects you and your overall health. You’re awesome at what you do and thank you for starting this program to help everyone

MANISHA P.

Before:
I joined the HFLA because I wanted a way to gain control of my life back instead of having the disease control me.

AFTER
I was finally able to understand more about what my body needs in terms of Hashimotos so I was able to gain some clarity, reduce my mental anxiety and have an overall better quality of life. I am able to wake up daily knowing how to provide the proper nutrition to my body so that it feels so much more energetic than before. I have learned to listen to my body and know when to give it some extra rest without feeling guilty about it. I no longer feel like the disease is a life sentence full of hopelessness and disappointment. Thank you again for being creating the academy and helping all of us sisters out.

My eating habits have improved tremendously. I’m more aware of what works and doesn’t work for my body. I feel “normal” again, I’m not fatigued all the time, I can sleep and feel rested, I can actually enjoy the day. My hair grew back!!

I’ve learned to be patient and more kind to my body. I understand more why things are harder for me in comparison to others without hashimotos/hypothyroidism but I also have a plan now to help me get through the rough times. I’ve learned that I’m not alone in my experiences and that being human and imperfect is ok. Even so, there are ways to help myself, and nothing is permanent.

Understanding the how and the why has helped me tremendously. Finding ways to get through the bumps and struggles and having a better quality of life. The root of all the struggles is stress and when you find ways to take stressors away—physically, mentally, or otherwise it helps you to live an overall better life.

Would you recommend the HFLA?
Yes, it is one of the few times where someone has taken the time to care, listen, and explain in detail about hashimotos and hypothyroidism . It gives you peace of mind knowing that there are ways to help and manage the disease and symptoms—-none of which will be provided by healthcare professionals.

SAPPHIRA V.

"I joined the HFLA to become the person I was before being diagnosed with Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism. I wanted to recover my energy levels, my will and my body."

  • I feel that my energy levels are back.
  • I have lost almost 4 kgs since the academy started.
  • I have a different attitude towards my scale.
  • I am sleeping better.
  • I am more regular
  • Because I am quite accurate with my food tracking, I make better choices on what to eat. I was so clueless before!
  • Clothes fit better and I have bought pieces I thought I would never date to wear.

I think change requires time, but I am aware of some things I want to change:
I want to eat slower. I want to have more self compassion.

The main change in my routines have been around sport. I used to do cardio only and, for years, I saw no impact. Walking for longer amount of time (mainly, because of lockdown and the need of being outdoors) and body weights just for the last weeks have started changing my body.

I would like to thank you for your help during this 3 months. Hopefully, we will keep in touch via Instagram. I am so looking forward the next phase, where I lost the pending 2 kgs and start gaining muscle again. BTW, today, I hit my minimum of 50,6 kgs! You were very good at estimating target weight for the 3 months. I am just 600 grams away!

ESTHER D.
Before
I decided to join H365 to learn how to live a sustainable/ to make a life style change. I've dealt with hypothyroidism for 5+ years and no matter what I read or tried.... nothing was sustainable. My goal in life has been to not only understand hypothyroidism, but how to live with it. A normal side affect with hypothyroidism is gaining hypo pounds, which is what most people deal with and try to lose these. I had tried different diets from intermittent fasting, keto and well extreme, extreme dieting. I wanted to join H365 to not only understand hypothyroidism, but how to life a sustainable life style.

After
As I've reflected over the last 12 weeks, I've overcome the mental state of not understanding what I'm dealing with but my biggest relationship has changed with food. I eat more consciously and to the point that if I don't hit my daily goals- I know it mentally throws me for a loop, so I have a very regimented lifestyle. I learned to plan meals, plan weeks and plan for trips. I make better choices, do I slip here and there- OF COURSE!- but that never lets me down. I pick myself back up and start all over again or even plan for those days were I will slip. I may have found my "mojo", I may not lost plenty of pounds but I have lost inches and feel the best I have in over a year. Those are goals and achievements I could have never foreseen coming 12 weeks ago.

As slightly stated above, I noticed that I've had a mental shift since I've started this program. I wouldn't have had this strong mental state of mind if I didn't work hard to obtain goals. I may not have achieved my weight goals but I've achieved mental goals that I think surpass all of the notion of losing hypo pounds. A year ago, I always thought I will be the "fat friend" everyone loves to have around but never the one that's confident enough to date and find someone for herself.  I changed my perception of who I am as a person, as a friend, as a daughter. I've changed the mentality of need to lose pounds to seeing how the progress I've made has changed my self confidence. I feel better, clothes fit better, I have more confidence while dating. Overall, I have this kick-ass attitude about life and my routine I never let anything stop it!. I knew I hit my peak when I visited my family (full on Gujarati family, I think you can relate), I love my moms food but it wasn't for me, so I made sure to get packets of veggies that I have daily to ensure I can balance meals. :o).... NO nasto [Indian snacks] for me!

I believe my time with HFLA has helped me. My biggest take away was having a community and program that help me set up for success for life is something I loved from my time with here.

Would you recommend the HFLA?
Absolutely, my struggle has been that no one I know can relate. So I tend to feel more alone even though I have support, I still feel as if no one will ever understand why I have to think and shift my thoughts/ lifestyle.

I can not be more thankful to be a part of your community and finding you was a true blessing. I CANNOT wait to share progress with you over time! Your content is great, keep at it and H365 will continue to be a higher success years to come!

"I joined hypothyroid academy to lose weight and to correct my eating habits. I was insecure with how i looked and how people looked at me. I constantly believed, as i was taught, that being thin equals to being beautiful, thin bodies look better than bigger bodies. I was in a constant battle with myself and I thought, like everytime, that this time i will succeed because i am committing and most of all spending a lot of money. I dont know what i said when i filled the first form but this is just the real version of how I have felt all my life."

Hypothyroid Academy has been a game changer for me because it finally helped me realise that the problem is much bigger than "hypothyroid" and the solution is much closer to me. I absolutely loved certain aspects of the Academy that concerned with mindfulness such as evolution of meal, journaling, eating balanced, eating when you are hungry and not starving yourself, not over eating because you think you want to eat more instead checking with how you feel in your body and slow eating most of all. I am definitely stronger. I loved the idea of baseline and much more. HFLA taught me how food can affect so many things and least of all mood, energy levels and how we can eat to feel happier.

I have come a long way and what has changed since the moment I started my journey is that I have realised that looking for things outside has and will never work for me. Looking for solutions, accountability, relying or tying myself to people and things and thinking that it will help me be the version of myself who in the very first place is not even my version of myself. My definition of progress has indeed changed and I will forever be greatful to the HFLA for that. I have learnt to value who I am rather than valuing the thinner person who I am supposed to be or will be in the future. I have learnt to value me right now in the current shape and form!

HFLA has 100% helped me but may be not in ways it was intended or how it usually helps women in the academy. I have learnt so many things about myself and relationships between food, mind and body. There are so many things you learn about yourself in the process and what resonated with me the most is how introspective each lesson and how much you get to know about yourself.

Before
When I was first diagnosed, I was so confused and lost. I had no idea where to begin. Mentally I was exhausted from all the contradicting information, I felt alone not having a support group, and I felt like I wasn’t making any progress which was making me feel like making me feel like taking desperate unhealthy routes for dieting. Physically I felt like my energy was low, I always felt so exhausted or tired. The reason I joined you as to meet people with similar issues and a support group, make friends, gain a better understanding of my eating habits and how to improve them.

After
Heck yeah!!! I definitely feel better than my first day. I feel like there are more days than before where I do feel more confident, I wore a crop top. There are days where I feel really depressed and just the weight makes me upset but I think out of the whole time in the program it only happened twice and by the end of the day I am myself again. My clothes is slowly starting to fit me again. I have started making healthier choices and cooking again. The thing I am most happiest about is I have started to gain some of my energy back. I have been jogging, doing Zumba, and bike riding in the mornings and or afternoons. I have been trying to do more movements and walking more. There are times I over do it but that just means I get to bed early or take a nap and recharge and then I am back at it again!

Do you recommend the HFLA?
Yes, I do recommend it, there is so much to learn!

"[Before the HFLA] I felt like I worked so hard to be strong—I wanted my body to reflect that! My clothes definitely fit better! Eating more protein has been a game changer, so many fewer cravings, that alone was worth the course! I am walking more and taking more "Easy" workout days.  I am also stretching more."

My idea of what "normal" is has changed.  I was just going through the motions feeling "okay" but now I realize that there are things I can do to make myself feel 100%.  I haven't figured out all of this, I am still working on my digestion, but I am learning a lot about what works and doesn't.

I love that it was not a meal plan.  I love to cook, I love to go out and those things often don't go hand in hand with a meal plan. This is a sustainable program.

"In October of 2019, I gained 6 lbs in 1 day. I thought it was a fluke, but no matter how little I ate, I couldn't seem to get it off. A couple months later, another 4 lbs came on. At this point I was taking every dietary measure known to man to lose the weight, but nothing was working. I was getting fatter and fatter by the week. When I noticed my hair was thinning, my periods disappeared, and I had serious constipation, I knew it was my thyroid."

It took a year of hopping around to different doctors to finally get to the dr I needed to see. Let me save you some time- You need to see a "hormone specialist" and look for one that specialized in functional medicine.

I came to Needhee's program because I needed emotional support during this journey. She was the only person who knew what I was going through. Traditional nutritionists DO NOT UNDERSTAND HYPOTHYROIDISM!

Needhee understood when my weight would fluctuate because my hormones were off. She reminded me of her struggle and how she eventually got there from an even darker place then I was in. I needed to hear that. You need to hear that. I didn't believe I would ever return to the person I was before.

After my doctor addressed my low thyroid hormones and sex hormones (Also important- check your estrogen/testosterone/progesterone), I noticed I was able to stick to the diet very easily. I kept a lot of the principles in my head from Needhee like "consistency is key" and "you can take the edge off every day by allowing small indulgences so you don't go crazy and binge."

I've lost 6 of the 10 lbs I gained in 2019, and I know the rest will come off. It's just consistency and time. I'm in such a better place today. I can't tell you how many times I cried looking in the mirror and feeling so helpless. But I promise you, with the right medical care and nutritionist support, YOU WILL LOSE THE HYPO POUNDS!

My Wins:

The academy gave me support during a time where I felt confused & overwhelmed. It was lovely to connect to women who understood each other and be there for each other throughout the 8 week process.

"I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and after the HFLA, I’m so happy to not be completely consumed by this. My head is no longer exploding from overwhelm."
